GLASS:

The window and door industry uses several ways to improve the energy efficiency of glazing products.
Changing the environment between the panes of glass is one way to boost efficiency. The sealed space between the panes contains either air or a gas that is even less conductive than air. Argon gas is the most commonly used.
Coating the glass  on a double pane or single pane window, is one method of enhancing glazing. Coating method reduces heat gain and glare and improves heating and cooling performance. Low-e ( low-emittance) coating, the most commonly used, are microscopically thin, transparent layers of metallic oxide.

Most common types of Glass:

Clear Obscure
Low-e Rain
GlueChip Narrow Reed
Solar Bronze Solar Gray
Also come in assorted thickness 1/4, 3/16, 1/2

GRIDS:

Grids: Bars fastened to the interior of the sash (between the window panes) to create the effect of divided lites. You can choose between Flat grids or Sculpucture grids.

Authentic Divided Lites (ADL) - For historic accuracy or real authenticity.
ADL features separate pieces of glass, individually glazed between muntin bars on our wood windows. It's the way windows have always been made, now with more efficiency.
Simulated Divided Lites (SDL)- Beauty with new efficiency and flexibility.
SDL gives traditional or contemporary style with greater efficiency. SDLs are permanently attached to both sides of the glass in just about any imaginable pattern. Space bars can be installed between the panes of glass, creating the illusion of ADL.

DEFINITIONS:

  1. X = Operable Panel, O = Fix Panel (windows are described from outside looking in)

  2. Mulled = The act of attaching two or more windows or a door and transom units together.

  3. T-Bar = A bar to simulate 2 or more windows

  4. Divided Lites = Division of light by the use of grilles.

  5. Space Bar: Tiny aluminum bars inserted between SDL grids to emulate ADL.
